Universal remotes are great for tidying up your coffee table. Instead of grabbing different remotes for your home media devices, a universal remote lets you control all with just one, meaning less remote clutter and easier control.
The demand for universal remotes has significantly decreased in recent years, resulting in a decline in the category and making it tough to come across good options. But if your home entertainment setup remains relatively uncomplicated, like a TV with a media player and soundbar, and you want a single remote to manage all your devices, General Electric (GE) offers some affordable choices.
You probably have a GE Universal Remote already, but you’ve misplaced the manual and code list that came with it. There’s nothing to worry about. If you’ve looked inside the remote’s battery compartment for a printed label that confirms it using the CL3 code list version, programming it is relatively straightforward.
Our guide for programming GE CL3 universal remote codes provides step-by-step guidance to help you set up the remote for your devices. Additionally, we’ve included a comprehensive library of the codes necessary for programming it.
How to Program GE CL3 Universal Remote?
Your GE CL3 Universal Remote is designed to control up to four, six, and eight video/audio devices, respectively, depending on the model and variant. While it’s possible to program a GE Universal Remote without codes using the Auto Code Search function, the Direct Code Entry method is often the simplest and quickest.
The following steps will walk you through the process of programming a GE CL3 remote with device codes:
- Power on the device you wish to control with your GE remote. In the meantime, locate the device brand from our lists of CL3 remote codes (check below) and note down the four-digit numbers.
- Press and hold the SETUP button on your universal remote until the red indicator light turns on. It should keep glowing even after you release the button.
- Next, press the device button for the type of device to program the remote for, e.g., TV, CBL, DVD, or AUD, upon which the red light should flash once and stay on.
- You can use any device button to control any of your devices. For instance, you can press the CBL button on the remote to control a satellite receiver, analog-to-digital converter, or any device type listed in the below sections.
- Now use the remote’s number keys to enter the first four-digit remote code for the particular device in our code library. The red indicator light should stop glowing after inputting the fourth digit.
- Aim your GE Universal Remote at the device and test the buttons (e.g., VOL, CH, MUTE, MENU, INPUT) to check whether the device responds as expected.
- If you can’t operate the device as intended, repeat from Step 2 onwards but with the following remote code(s) on the list.
You’ve successfully programmed your GE Universal Remote with CL3 remote codes! You may now repeat the above steps for all the other devices you want to control.
Programming Tips
- Some codes may only work for a few of your device’s functions. There could be another code in our list that allows controlling more functions. Try out different ones from the list to access more features.
- Select all-in-one units like TV/DVD and DVD/VCR will need you to program two different device buttons to manage each part of the device.
- Let’s say you own a TV/DVD combo. In that case, you might have to program the TV button with one code to control the TV and the DVD button with another code for the DVD player.
- The Master Volume feature lets you choose one device that the volume buttons will adjust. For instance, even when using your GE remote to control the TV, the volume buttons can adjust the sound of your audio receiver or home theater system instead of the TV. Here’s how to enable it:
- Long-press the SETUP button and release it once the red indicator light starts to glow.
- Press the device button (e.g., TV, AUX) for the device you want to adjust the volume.
- Press the MUTE button on the remote, followed by the VOL+ The indicator light should flash twice and turn off.
- If you’re having trouble programming the remote, be sure to use fresh batteries. Also, there should be no blockage between the remote and the device during testing.
